June 2012 Edit : Sad to say that we no longer commercially supply these fantastic chickens! If it ever starts again, will post it up here!
Hi everyone. I'm Brandon and I was recently introduced to organic chicken by my very good friend Thomas, who happens to be the farm owner. The first question which I asked was, what exactly is organic chicken? Chicken is an animal, so isn't it organic?
So I was given a long explanation and I it was decided that we head down to the farm located in Pajam, near Nilai. Below is what I got to understand and thus, would like to share with everyone here about chicken facts!
It came as quite a shock to me about how our typical chicken in markets or supermarkets are bred. A chick, at 1 day old, is already given a drop of antibiotics. Then they are fed food mix with growth hormones, live in a cramp environment, at 30 days, another shot of antibiotics, and ready to go to market in just 42 days!!!
I was dumbfounded. A 2kg chicken ready from chick to adult weight in 42 days. It's with these information that I start to realize how unhealthy the chicken meat that we have been consuming.
Thus thats why Thomas has decided to go back to very basics and rear chickens the traditional non big scale commercial way. In his farm, the chickens are not fed any antibiotics, no hormones, and consumes all natural ingredients, such as coconut, corn, wheat, nangka and vegetables. They are free to roam a 2 hectare farm land which is very well maintained, thus reducing the chance for diseases. All the young chicken cages are thoroughly cleaned and sanitize every alternate month, again to maintain hygiene.
The chickens here matures for about 90 days before they are slaughtered, and even then, their size is about 1.2kg~1.6kg live weight. Because of the breed of the chicken and the exercise that they get, the meat is much firmer and leaner, but not tough like those of pure kampung chicken, which can sometimes taste like chewing rubber.
The farm has just gotten the first batch of chickens for sale and the total is about 200 chickens. Half has already been sold. The projected output per month now is about 150~200 chickens. The volume will probably grow depending on demand. But of course there will be no sacrifice on quality as that would defeat the purpose.
So anyone interested in organic chicken, do contact me, Brandon at brandon.seetoh@gmail.com for enquiries. From now until end of May, we will provide free delivery to orders made within Damansara Utama, Damansara Jaya, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, and SS2 area for minimum order of 1 chicken. After this introduction, a minimum order of 3 chickens will be entitled to free delivery.
Each chicken live weight averages about 1.2~1.6kg and the cleaned chicken weight is about 800g~1.2kg each. After an order is received, we will have the chicken slaughtered the next day, quickly frozened, and we will deliver the next day after the order is received.
If anyone has questions, you can just email, call, sms or just leave a question in the comment box. Thanks alot, and healthy eating....
PS: We can also arrange for visits to the farm, if there are enquiries for it too! I would recommend during durian season :)
